Timeless Inspiration: The Indistractable Mind

Bruce Lee once said that the successful warrior is the average man with a “laser-like focus.”

What did he mean by that?

In the modern day, in terms of productivity, many people think that you have to focus like a laser on a task to get it done. Really dig in and keep total concentration.

But true concentration is to be in a relaxed state, and to devote enough time and dedication to the problem without over-stressing. Without making your brow frown, as it were.

We can do this in a number of ways to become what’s called in modern day more like an “indistractable warrior.”

We would need to devote an hour of time without any distractions to a task. So if you need to compose something, for example, the easiest thing to do is to say to yourself:

“I’m going to have one hour without my phone, without the television, without any distractions, just one hour. And I’m going to write for one hour with no distractions.”

This way productivity is increased because you devote time to something rather than having an item on a to-do list, where you put pressure on yourself to get things done regardless of the practical constraints of time.

This may work for some people, but for others it’s a better idea to throw time at a project: just one hour, two hours and see how much you can get done without distractions.

This will give you a good sense of self-esteem, you will be proud of yourself that you did something for one hour without any distraction.

You’ve watched the whole film, for example, or you read part of a book, but you did it without distraction for one hour. This increases your productivity.

It’s almost like having that laser-like focus, if you’re training in sports or martial arts, so you just have that one hour dedicated to a specific task two or three times per week, regardless of how much you accomplish during that hour.

When you’re only thinking of the task at hand, you throw yourself entirely at it, you’re giving it time rather than trying to master it immediately.

So try that concept of laser-like focus by devoting a specific amount of time to each task to truly become indistractable.
